Governor Walz’ ban on dancing has given rise to a new issue that’s splitting Republicans. Those opposed to the Governor’s use of executive orders, appear irate that Walz would prohibit dancing. The issue has wide appeal with the more libertarian ranks in the GOP; while moderate leaning Republicans believe the Governor must do everything in his power to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Democrat operatives we spoke to are hatching a plan to splinter GOP votes in the 2022 election: create a Legalize Dancing Now Party. After several Democrats suffered the result of a thriving Legalize Marijuana vote in their district, the operatives believe now is the time to create a new party and start recruiting dancers to run for office.
DFL Senate incumbent Dan Sparks lost his re-election to Gene Dornink earlier this month by a 4-point margin. Legalize Marijuana Now Party candidate, Tyler Becvar, received a whopping 6.7% of the vote. Democrat operatives believe those votes were taken from Sparks and is the reason the GOP prevailed.
The new party would be a single issue party. Their central platform would be to legalize dancing again, to include square, polka, ballroom and the infamous Chicken Dance. Operatives believe the party would have wide appeal amongst the libertarian base and could lead to 10 points taken from Republican candidates in certain districts in the 2022 election.
